According to new Bureau of Labor Statistics data, Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate is down 2.1% in July from numbers a year ago. From July 2021 to July 2022, the state’s unemployment dropped from 6.4 percent to 4.3 percent. Additionally, unemployment is down by .2 percent since June 2022.
Locally, in Lehigh County, the unemployment rate is just above the state average at 4.7 percent and in Northampton County is just on the state average at 4.3 percent.
Regarding jobs, Pennsylavnia added a total of 31,000 non-farm jobs between June 2022 and July 2022. The state has also added over 200,000 new jobs since July 2021
The rise in new jobs and decrease in unemployment are great signs for the future of the Lehigh Valley economy.
