Eagles Lose Big at Home to 49ers

The Philadelphia Eagles played host to the San Francisco 49ers in what many were saying could be a preview of an NFC Championship game in January. But a game that looked great on paper did not live up to its hype, as the Eagles were blown out 42-19.

After trailing by just eight heading into the locker room at halftime, the wheels started to fall off, as the Eagles were outscored 28-13 in the second half. The defense didn’t have an answer for a potent 49ers offense that put up 456 yards of offense. The 49ers had their way, with quarterback Brock Purdy throwing for 314 yards and four touchdowns, wide receiver Deebo Samuel putting up 116 yards and scoring two catching touchdowns along with a running one, and running back Christian McCaffrey going for 133 all purpose yards and a touchdown.

On the offensive side of the ball, though the Eagles had 333 all purpose yards and quarterback Jalen Hurts played well with both a passing and rushing touchdown, they couldn’t keep up with the torrent scoring pace set by the 49ers.

The loss drops the team to 10-2 on the year and loosens their grip on a first round playoff bye. They’ll next head to Dallas for a rematch with NFC East rivals the Dallas Cowboys. The Eagles won the team’s first outing this year.
